
Corporate Rowing Challenge

On February 26th, 2022, beginning at 9 AM, the Vigo County YMCA will host Wabash Valley Crew's Corporate Rowing Challenge. This indoor rowing competition will see ten teams of five racing against each other on Erg machines (indoor rowing machine) for a total of 30 minutes. There will be three races; a celebrity race, a corporate race and a youth race. Each team entry costs $500 and proceeds will go towards building a boathouse in Fairbanks Park!

Arshay Cooper is a Rower, Regional Bestselling and Award-winning author, A 2x Golden Oar recipient for his contributions to the sport of rowing, motivational speaker, and activist, and the protagonist of the film A Most Beautiful Thing. Arshay grew up on the West Side of Chicago, and in 1997, he joined (and later became captain of) the first all-black high school rowing team at Manley High School, an experience that changed his life

Alvin Ross is an original member of the first all-black high school rowing team at Manley High School in Chicago, alongside Arshay. Ross said, “When we used to be out on the water and everyone laid back and we’d talk, we all noticed that all of us wanted the same thing. Peace. And it brought us the same thing. We all wanted peace, we all felt at peace on the water” (WTTW, 2020). Ross now owns his own moving company in Chicago.
